Mumbai: After soaring to 35 degrees just over the past weekend, day temperatures in Mumbai dropped below 30 degrees on Tuesday, according to recordings by the IMD’s Colaba observatory. The IMD Colaba observatory recorded maximum temperatures of 29 degrees, which was 1.2 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 32°C, just 0.4°C above normal, indicating near-normal conditions.
The weather bureau said that the excessive heat in Mumbai over the past few days was due to a delayed sea breeze. However, the dip in temperatures on Tuesday brought much relief to the city, which, despite being in the midst of winter months, has been missing out on the cool and pleasant weather conditions.
Minimum temperatures recorded also witnessed a dip as the IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatories logged 20.3 degrees and 18 degrees, respectively, which was also near normal. The IMD said that no large change is expected in maximum temperatures in parts of Maharashtra during the next 4-5 days. In its forecast for January 29, the IMD stated that mainly clear skies are likely to persist in the city and suburbs, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 33 degrees and 18 degrees.
