Mumbai: The BMC has seized 544 unauthorized handcarts, 968 cylinders and 1251 other materials, as part of their campaign against unauthorised vending in the last seven days. As per the direction of the High Court, the BMC has decided to keep 20 heavily congested areas free of hawkers. The civic body is taking continuous action against the hawkers who are obstructing the use of footpaths and roads by the citizens. The anti-encroachment operation is being conducted every day from 2 pm to 10 pm, apart from regular office hours.
