Navi Mumbai: Abhishek Kumar, a Thane-based pet parent, was horrified to find out that his two dogs, which were kept at a pet boarding-lodging and training centre in Yeoor, were brutally beaten up by the staff workers there. As a result, Kumar’s eight-month-old toy poodle, ‘Dollar’, was blinded in one eye, while his one-year-old golden retriever, ‘Whiskey’, suffered bodily injuries.
With the help of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA India), Kumar has now lodged an FIR against the two owners and two employees of ‘Dogs and Me.’ “We left our pets, Dollar and Whiskey, under the care of Dogs And Me on December 26, since my family was going abroad for a vacation. On Dec 28, I got a call that Dollar had an eye swelling,” said Kumar, who reached the pet resort on Dec 30.
After checking the CCTV of the pet resort, Kumar noticed footage from Dec 27 showing how Dollar was brutally punched in the face, near the eye, by a staff worker. Whiskey was also physically abused without any reason. Dollar completely lost vision in one eye due to the punches she suffered, Kumar said.
After reviewing the CCTV footage, Thane’s Vartak Nagar police station lodged the FIR against two owners of the pet resort—Asit Sawant and Sneha Naik—and two staff workers under the BNS sections 3(5) and 325 for physically beating and maiming an animal. — Vijay Singh
