BMC to train 10,000 street food vendors

Mumbai: To reduce public health risks from unhealthy food, the BMC has decided to provide training on food safety regulations, hygiene practices, besides safe handling and food storage practices to approximately 10,000 licensed food vendors within its jurisdiction. Accordingly, a memorandum of understanding was signed between BMC and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Under this agreement, food vendors will receive comprehensive training on food safety, personal hygiene and cleanliness, waste management, and information on the Food Safety and Standards Act. In a BMC release, municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani stated that it is the duty of the corporation to provide training to food vendors for the health of ordinary Mumbaikars. — Sanjeev Devasia
