THANE: The driver of a truck loaded with a cement mixer and his colleague suffered serious injuries after he lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended another truck loaded with 15 tonnes of cement blocks stranded on the Cadbury flyover along the busy Eastern Express Highway, Sunday morning, officials informed.
The incident was reported around 7 am on the Nashik to Mumbai lane of the highway when the mixer-loaded truck carrying around 15 tonnes of cement was on its way from the manufacturing site at Owala to a civil construction site in Mulund.
The driver of the cement mixer apparently lost control of his vehicle while crossing the flyover near Chirag Nagar and crashed into the stationary truck that stalled on the carriageway after developing some snag, Thane police officials informed.
“The impact of the collision badly mangled the cabin of the cement mixer truck, trapping the driver Mukesh Yadav (30) and his helper identified as Pankaj (25). Rescue teams reached the spot and barricaded the stretch until the trapped duo was retrieved from the cabin and rushed to a nearby hospital. The vehicles were removed from the carriageway and the stretch cleared after nearly an hour, after shattered windscreen glass and cement blocks that spilled over from one of the trucks,” informed Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell.
The Rabodi police will investigate the case further.
