Thakurli flyover work to resume after six-year halt as KDMC clears compensation hurdle

KALYAN: The work on Dombivli’s crucial, half-finished Thakurli flyover, which was stopped for the last six years, is now expected to start again soon. To complete the work on this flyover, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has allotted houses as compensation for the 60 houses that will be affected by the project.
Once this flyover is built, the parallel route from Kalyan to Dombivli will be completed, and people will not have to go through crowded lanes in Thakurli while travelling from Kalyan to Dombivli via Thakurli.
BJP MLA Ravindra Chavan, who was pursuing the issue with KDMC, recently held meetings over the same with KDMC Commissioner Indurani Jakhar. Jakhar later prioritised the issue by instructing their team and holding meetings with affected families to ensure them houses as compensation.
Finally, after completing all formalities, on Friday, they were allotted houses by giving them allotment letters. After giving compensation, KDMC, through MMRDA, will now be able to complete this half-finished Thakurli flyover. The work, which is pending from Thakurli railway station up to the 90-feet road, will involve demolishing the affected residents’ houses to complete the flyover work.
It may be recalled that residents from the twin Kalyan-Dombivli city were demanding a parallel road to connect Kalyan with Dombivli for over 20 years. For the same, a 90-feet road was constructed parallel to the railway tracks between Kalyan and Thakurli.
However, since many residents were getting affected near Thakurli railway station, the Thakurli flyover, part of which was inaugurated in 2018, was halted for years due to compensation issues.
