Mumbai: Former leader of opposition and Congress neta Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday demanded immediate scrapping of the newly-introduced facial recognition system for entry into Mantralaya, saying it is causing massive inconvenience to visitors coming to Mantralaya from far-flung areas of the state. MPCC president Nana Patole endorsed his demand.
“For common people, it is a herculean task for securing entry in Mantralaya. In fact, Mantralaya employees are facing difficulties while entering the place. I am told a new facial recognition scheme has been introduced for the purpose. In the absence of adequate homework, the department concerned is yet to complete the exercise,” Wadettiwar said.
All officers, Mantralaya employees, and public representatives have to register face details to avoid delays. Other visitors will have to get an instant photo pass issued at designated gates to enter Mantralaya. They will only be allowed to access depts where they have work and not be allowed in other parts of Mantralaya.
Wadettiwar said CM Devendra Fadnavis should fix responsibility for the mess, he said. He pointed out common people rush to Mantralaya after officials fail to redress grievances at tehsil or district level, but now in view of the faulty entry system, they have been left high and dry.
