Jamats told to make Memons a ‘talaq-free’ community
The All India Memon Jamat Federation aims to make the Memon community ‘talaq-free’ by forming consultative committees to resolve marital disputes.

MUMBAI: The All India Memon Jamat Federation, an umbrella body of 505 Memon jamats in the country, has written to differentJamats to help make Memons a ‘talaq-free‘ community.
The Federation president Iqbal Memon Officer said that all Jamats have been asked to form consultative committees comprising five men and women to resolve marital disputes and avoid incidents of talaqs in the community.
“These committees will hold meetings with couples and their respective parents. They will counsel couples and make all efforts to ensure that talaq or divorce, especially triple talaq or instant divorce, is avoided,” he said.
Officer added that all the jamats which successfully avert talaqs in their jurisdictions will be felicitated at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the Federation in Mumbai later this year. He said that suggestions have also been given to thejamats to tell its members to quit gutkha chewing.
