Mumbai: Malad’s Evershine Nagar Residents Welfare Association, in a letter to the BMC, has sought the demolition of a ramp constructed on a pedestrian bridge above Marve Creek that connects Malvani with Evershine Nagar.
Their demand also follows a letter sent by the traffic police to the BMC on Dec 30, asking for the unpaved bridge to be removed as the Mith Chowky flyover is now open.

The pedestrian bridge, originally constructed as a foot over bridge in 2009, has allegedly been modified with a ramp without proper permissions, residents alleged. Tajinder Singh Tiwana, president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Mumbai, said a meeting was held recently to address the issue. “This ramp became a shortcut for bikers, especially during the Mith Chowky junction work. However, now that the Mith Chowky bridge is complete, the ramp should be demolished,” Tiwana said.
The residents in their letter said, “This is now conveniently used by bikers on a daily basis. Over the past few years, the frequency and intensity of motorbike-related incidents have escalated beyond control… They… even use pavements.” Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner of P North ward, said they received a communication from the traffic department. “We are deciding on how to take this matter ahead.” — Richa Pinto
