NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar reaffirmed on Monday that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) remains committed to secular politics and will not permit any efforts to foster religious discord in the state.
He stated that the NCP, under his leadership, would not welcome individuals with questionable reputations into the party.
“Maharashtra has always stood as a beacon of progressive thought and social harmony. NCP stands for unity and secularism. We won’t tolerate those sowing seeds of hatred in different communities and engaging in divisive politics,” Pawar stated during the inauguration of the NCP district office in Jalna.
He reiterated the party’s strict stance against including tainted individuals, urging members to uphold this principle.
“I urge party members not to include tainted individuals in our party,” he said.
Pawar also addressed the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, encouraging ineligible women beneficiaries to withdraw voluntarily, as the scheme is intended for economically disadvantaged women.
“Those who pay income tax are also availing of the benefits of the monthly cash transfer scheme. They should give up the benefit on their own,” he remarked, assuring that eligible beneficiaries would receive their allowances next month.
Criticizing the opposition for inconsistent views on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Pawar stated, “When they (opposition parties) win elections in Karnataka and West Bengal, they praise EVMs. But when they lose, they blame the same machines.”
He urged NCP workers to prepare for the upcoming local body elections.
