Maharashtra assembly elections result: Thane city netas retain strongholds
CM Eknath Shinde who got 1.59 lakh votes also managed to garner the highest winning margin among 4 seats within the Thane corporation limits.

THANE: The incumbent MLAs from seats within the Thane corporation limits managed to retain their respective strongholds and with a major and better victory margin. The city streets reverberated with celebrations throughout the evening as most winning candidates took out rallies accompanied by supporters.
Chief minister Eknath Shinde who got 1.59 lakh votes also managed to garner the highest winning margin among the four seats within the Thane corporation limits. Shinde banked heavily on the laadki bahin scheme that has over 1.2 lakh beneficiaries in his constituency alone and won the Kopri Pachpakhadi seat defeating the UBT candidate and his mentor’s nephew Kedar Dighe with a massive margin of 1.2 lakh votes.
“I thank all the voters for helping me and the Mahayuti with such a landslide victory. My laadki bahins (sisters) and their families have reacted positively to all the work done by our government in the last 2.5 years… The opposition spent the last 2.5 years in levelling allegations against us but we responded with constructive work. Our aim is to create a positive impact on the lives of the citizens,” he said.
Party colleague and three term MLA Pratap Sarnaik from Ovala-Majiwada constituency polled 1.8 lakh votes defeating the UBT candidate Naresh Manera with a neat winning margin of 1.08 lakhs.
“I knew I would sail past with a one lakh winning margin and am among the first three in the state with highest victory margin. Primarily, I dedicate my victory to Shinde saheb who led us all to victory and the voters who showed their trust in me. Our Sainiks and Mahayuti activists also undertook immense efforts for my win. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Mahayuti in the state, we will continue to undertake developmental works,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Sanjay Kelkar also managed to retain the Thane constituency for the third time getting 1.2 lakh votes and defeating his nearest competitor UBT’s Rajan Vichare and pushing MNS Avinash Jadhav to the third position this time. The seat – a saffron bastion- witnessed a three way fight but the BJP managed to retain it.
“I thank Thane residents for showing trust in me for the third time. The Mahayuti is undertaking developmental works with a bullet train speed. I aim to make Thane a developed city with the support of my colleagues and blessing of leaders. The state needs a double engine sarkaar… The laadki bahin scheme worked wonders and so did our janakalyan scheme that was introduced in Thane,” he said while speaking to the media amid chants of jai shree ram.
On the other hand, Jitendra Awhad of the NCP-SP, the sole MVA seat in the corporation limits managed to retain the Kalwa-Mumbra constituency for the MVA in the region for the fourth time by defeating his one-time protégé Najeeb Mulla of the NCP with a 96288 winning margin. “My janata has immense love and affection for me which was proved once again in my victory… The overall assembly result wasn’t expected. The anger of the public and the sympathy surprisingly failed to be seen in the voting,” he said.
