KALYAN: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) administration decided to cancel the contract of the private contractor responsible for waste collection in three ward areas due to negligence by the contractor.
In these three wards—B, D, and J—waste will now be collected by the KDMC administration in the afternoon instead of the morning. Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management, Atul Patil, has appealed to citizens for cooperation.
Patil said that the work of a new private agency appointed for seven wards in the KDMC area will commence soon, which will resolve the issue. As per KDMC, the R & B Company was given the contract for waste collection in the B, D, and J ward areas of the KDMC region.
However, due to old garbage trucks, frequent technical issues, and faulty vehicles, waste collection in these wards was severely affected. Many local representatives and citizens repeatedly complained to the KDMC administration about improper waste collection. Despite issuing a formal notice to the contractor, no improvement was seen, leading to the cancellation of the contract, as informed by Atul Patil.
The officials said now, KDMC’s sanitation workers and machinery will handle waste collection in the B, D, and J wards. This work will be conducted from 2 PM to 10 PM instead of in the morning, and Atul Patil has urged citizens to cooperate.
Additionally, a new agency has been appointed for waste collection, transportation, and processing methods in the remaining seven wards, excluding the B, D, and J wards in the KDMC area. This agency’s work will begin in the next two to two and a half months, after which the sanitation workers and other systems from these seven wards will be redirected to the B, D, and J wards by the KDMC administration.
Until this new system is fully operational, citizens of the B, D, and J wards are requested to endure some inconvenience and provide necessary cooperation to the municipal administration.
Deputy Commissioner Atul Patil also urged citizens not to dispose of waste on roads, open spaces, or in the open if the waste collection vehicle is delayed.
