New Ulhasnagar municipal commissioner takes charge, orders fast-track completion of road and drainage works

ULHASNAGAR: To address the problem of dust arising from the cement work on seven roads in Ulhasnagar city, which has been ongoing for more than a year, and the pits dug all over the city for the new drainage line, UMC commissioner Manisha Awhale, who took charge as the new commissioner of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation on Friday, called a meeting of the officers and contractors related to both these works. She instructed them to expedite these works and complete them within the stipulated time.
In Ulhasnagar, with the efforts of Lok Sabha MP Shrikant Shinde and local BJP MLA Kumar Ailani, MMRDA is cementing seven important roads in the city. However, despite the work starting more than a year ago, progress was slow. Additionally, a new drainage pipeline is being laid across the city at a cost of Rs 425 crore, causing inconvenience to residents due to dust and traffic.
Recently, BJP MLA Ailani also demanded the completion of these roads soon. In response to public concerns and complaints from public representatives, Awhale, who assumed the post of Commissioner last week, convened a meeting of all MMRDA, UMC engineers, contractors, and officials from other departments related to these works on Friday. During the meeting, the Commissioner sternly ordered the completion of these works as soon as possible within the stipulated time limit.
The Commissioner instructed all agencies to collaborate to expedite the work and ordered engineers to physically supervise daily work and provide updates to her.
During the meeting, she instructed concerned department officials to assist MMRDA by removing encroachments in road marking, cutting of trees, drainage pipes, etc. The related works should be completed immediately by the concerned officers.
Instructions were also given to the contractor to control dust caused by the digging up of roads by spraying water daily.
