Don’t oppose college of law at Mayem, says CM Pramod Sawant

Panaji/Bicholim: Venting his ire after locals objected to the establishment of a law college at Mayem, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the institute will aid the development of the constituency and provide new career opportunities. Attempts to block the establishment of the college will hurt the future generation, he said.
“It is govt land and govt wants to bring in a good project for the benefit of the people, but people want to block it. There is a wrong mentality to stall projects. If you don’t allow projects to come up, how can the village develop?” said Sawant and added that institutions of higher learning can completely change the dynamics of Mayem in 50 years, as the standards of other educational institutes in the vicinity will also improve.
The Mayem gram sabha recently unanimously opposed the proposed law college. People objected to giving away land for it when the issue of evacuee property has yet to be resolved by govt.
Sawant accused NGOs and other political parties of trying to instigate protests for political gains. “Don’t play with Goa’s future for the sake of politics. Play politics with votes,” he said while speaking after laying the foundation stone for key development projects at Mayem-Vainguinim.
