Mumbai: Following a Jan 22 TOI report, which pointed towards cracks on the surface of a recently laid road in Andheri’s Lokhandwala locality, a civic team visited the site early Wednesday morning. They decided to apply epoxy on the surface of the road for durability.
Confirming it, a senior roads department officer said, “A portion of the road was paved earlier, and any undulations in that portion of the road are also being looked at on priority.” Residents were taken aback by the cracks appearing on the newly constructed road, especially as older roads in the area have been intact for longer periods, they said. On Wednesday, TOI reported how cracks have cropped up on the road over Mograh Nullah adjoining Grenville CHS, which was constructed just before the 2024 monsoon season. This was also not the first such instance. Last Dec, Bhargav Road in Santacruz, which was constructed before monsoon, developed visible cracks, local residents showed.
Meanwhile, almost one month on, works on Andheri’s Yamuna Nagar Road continue to be abandoned. Rakesh Coelho, vice-president of the BJP North West District, said, “We met the municipal commissioner last week and hope for a quick resolution.” BMC officials had earlier said as it was an internal road in a private layout, it was not being taken up for repairs. — Richa Pinto
