Mumbai: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and Amazon upped the ante on Day 2 of World Economic Forum at Davos on Wednesday as the state govt inked 22 MoUs worth Rs 9.5 lakh crore with the potential to generate 14.2 lakh jobs. A day after signing a Rs 16,500-crore MoU to set up a defence manufacturing unit at Ratnagiri, RIL committed to investing another Rs 3.05 lakh crore in the state. Amazon plans projects worth Rs 71,795 crore offering 83,100 jobs.
Besides, Mumbai-based Vardhaan Lithium said it will set up an electronics unit and provide 5,000 jobs with an investment of Rs 42,535 crore.
Collectively, over the course of two days, CM Devendra Fadnavis has overseen the signing of 54 MoUs worth Rs 15.7 lakh crore with an employment potential of 15.95 lakh. The Mahayuti govt has set a target of making Maharashtra a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Fadnavis called the signing of the MoU with RIL that promises 3 lakh jobs in diverse sectors, including new energy, retail, hospitality and high-tech manufacturing, “a groundbreaking moment”. In a video message, Anant Ambani, non-executive director of RIL, lauded the PM for his transformative efforts in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’. He said RIL is committed to contributing to a new India. He also praised Fadnavis for positioning Maharashtra as the gateway to India’s $5 trillion economy.
Essar, which in collaboration with Blue Energy, signed an MoU on Tuesday to invest Rs 8,000 crore in the green energy sector, said its projects are slated to begin in 2026-27.
