THANE: A cat suffocated to death after it got trapped in a fire that broke out in a restaurant and bar operating in Upvan area of Thane, early Monday.
The incident was reported in the Bombay Duck restaurant and bar around 6am following which rescue officials rushed to the spot and started dousing the blaze which had by then damaged furniture and electronic gadgets among other items in the facility, informed Yasin Tadvi, in-charge at the Thane regional disaster management cell.
While the staff escaped injuries as they fled in time, a domesticated cat got trapped in the blaze and possibly died due to suffocation, Tadvi informed based on initial observation.
“Our teams were unaware of the presence of the cat inside the premises. It is possible the staff may have assumed the feline to have escaped during the blaze. The cause of the blaze and the incident will be investigated further,” he said.
