Mumbai: The state govt on Thursday appointed BJP’s IT minister Ashish Shelar as patron and advisor for the ‘Maha-Hub Innovation and Incubation Centre‘ based in Kalyan, deputy CM Shinde’s home district and his son MP Shrikant Shinde’s Lok Sabha constituency. No one from the Sena, including industries minister Uday Samant, has been made part of the board of directors even as a new post of patron and advisor has been created for Shelar.
In a new order issued by the state govt, Kumar Mangalam Birla, who heads Aditya Birla Group, is chairperson of the board of directors of the Maha-Hub Innovation and Incubation Centre Company. An amount of Rs 500 crore was set aside by the state govt for the centre in the first phase.
In 2024, along with Birla, the state govt appointed industrialists Anand Mahindra, Anant Ambani, Baba Kalyani, Manasi Kirloskar, Prasanna Deshpande, Jay Kotak, and IT expert Nitin Gupte as part of the board of directors.
A 25-hectare state govt plot at Antarli village in Kalyan tehsil of Thane district was identified for the project. The announcement of the centre was made in 2023 when Shinde was CM, and Shrikant held several meetings with the govt to push the project through.
Officials said the location in Kalyan was selected based on its connectivity to Mumbai. Officials claimed it would be the largest such centre in the country.
