Babus bypassing me on key policies: Ind min Samant

Mumbai: In a major sign of rift between Sena ministers and IAS officers in the Mahayuti govt, Shiv Sena industries minister Uday Samant said important policy decisions related to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the industries department were taken at the administrative level without keeping him in the loop.
In a letter to secretary (industries) P Anbalgan and MIDC CEO P Velrasu, Samant stated that from now on, he should be informed of such decisions. Samant mentioned that infrastructural works sanctioned earlier by MIDC were curtailed without bringing it to his notice.
While there has been buzz that top babus have been bypassing ministers, especially from the Sena-led by Eknath Shinde, Samant is the first minister to bring the issue on record and write to babus from his department. Recently, claiming the BJP doesn’t need Shinde anymore, Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar claimed that one could see the uday (rise) of another neta, just like Shinde, brought in to counter Uddhav Thackeray. Though Wadettiwar did not name anyone, his apparent reference was to Samant.
“I should be regularly briefed by industries secretary and MIDC CEO regarding important work and submit a schedule,” Samant said in his letter. Earlier, by decentralising administrative powers related to MIDC, most of the administrative decision-making powers were given to the respective regional officers, deputy chief executive officers, and joint chief executive officers, said Samant. “But in recent times, most of these powers have been concentrated. By doing this, the people of Maharashtra, especially the micro and small entrepreneurs, have to face the brunt of coming to Mumbai,” Samant said.
