Navi Mumbai: A 28-year-old youth was arrested on Saturday by Vashi police after he was allegedly caught using an electronic device and a mobile phone hidden inside his shirt for copying during the entrance exam for the clerical post for Raigad District Central Co-operative Bank. The exam centre was at Father Agnel Technical Education Centre in Sector 9A, Vashi. His aide, who was dictating the answers from a remote place over the device, is being traced.
Jahagir Mulani, police inspector (Crime) of Vashi, said that the arrested accused was identified as Akash Ghunwat, who hails from Jalna. His aide, Rahul Thakur, who also hails from Jalna and was dictating the answers to Ghunwat on the electronic device, is being traced.
PI Mulani said, “We received a tip-off that one candidate appearing for the entrance exam for the clerical post for Raigad District Central Co-operative Bank, whose centre was in Vashi on Saturday, was using electronic devices for copying. Accordingly, between 9 am and 10 am, we carried out checks of all the candidates at the exam centre, when Ghunwat was found with a miniature electronic device resembling a battery and hidden in his full-shirt sleeves and a wireless air microphone. We also found a mobile phone that Ghunwat had hidden in the pocket that he stitched inside his shirt. Ghunwat used his mobile phone to send the photo of the question paper to his aide Thakur, who in turn was dictating the answers on the electronic device on Ghunwat’s air microphone. The accused Ghunwat was previously arrested at another bank exam centre.”
Mulani said the two accused have been booked under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for cheating and joint criminal liability, along with The Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices at University, Board and Other Specified Examinations Act, 1982. The arrested accused Ghunwat has been remanded to police custody. A police team has been sent to Jalna to arrest his aide Thakur.
