Vasai: A 36-year-old woman died after the bike she was riding pillion on with her husband had a collision with a van at Virar (east) around 4 pm Monday. The woman, Rajshri Tambe, and her husband, Sachin (40), were on their way to pick up their two daughters from school when the crash took place at Manvelpada.
The husband, who sustained injuries, has been admitted to hospital. The woman had sustained head injury, and died on the spot, according to the police.
Senior inspector of Virar police station, Lalu Ture, said that Vishal Vijay Salvi (33), driver of the van bearing registration MH04KF5153, has been arrested and sent for a medical test to ascertain if he had been drunk when the crash occurred. —Vishal Rajemahadik
