Mumbai: Jawhar police have arrested seven persons, including women, for allegedly assaulting former Shiv Sena corporator Vijay Gholap (75) after he complained about them gambling, selling drugs to tribals and conducting illicit activities on a civic ground. In the Jan 30 assault, which was caught on video, a woman tried to grab Gholap by his throat and hit him, while one of the accused hit him on the leg with an iron rod even as another attacked him. They were booked under BNS sections of attempt to murder and rioting on a complaint by Gholap, who is now a senior Sena office-bearer in Palghar.
