Woman ends life, boyfriend held on abetment charge | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Mahim police on Thursday arrested a 25-year-old man, Owais Abdul Rehman Sheikh, for allegedly abetting the suicide of his girlfriend Alia Gachi.
Around 4.15pm, Owais called up Gachi’s neighbour Lakshmi Pagdhare and told her that his girlfriend had hanged herself in her room at Mahim Nakhwa Residents’ Association at Mahim Causeway. Pagdhare alerted Gachi’s friend Shagupta Sheikh and the duo broke open the room door using a paver block and found her hanging from an iron pipe with a bedsheet. They brought her down and rushed her to a nearby hospital. She was referred to Sion Hospital, where doctors declared her dead before admission around 6.30pm. The post-mortem report confirmed death by hanging, said police.
Based on Shagupta’s complaint that Owais refused to marry Gachi and physically and mentally harassed her, police registered a case against him and arrested him.The investigation is being led by API Bhosale.
