MUMBAI: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday announced that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji would be erected in Haryana’s Panipat as a symbol of valour. He made the comment at the Maratha Valour Day event held to mark 264 years of the Battle of Panipat in Kala Aam area.
The event, at its 19th year, was organised by Panipar Shaurya Samiti to pay tribute to the Maratha warriors.
“Marathas fought for the protection of the nation by risking their lives in the Battle of Panipat. I assure that Maharashtra govt will provide best support for the valor memorial of this war in Panipat,” Fadnavis said.
The CM said there was a lot to learn from the war campaign at that time. “Marathas not only won many campaigns that followed, but also hoisted the flag until they were arrested. Mavalas followed Chhatrapati Shivaji’s teachings to fight for the country beyond caste and that is why Marathas once held the throne of Delhi. Let us build a developed Maharashtra and India by maintaining this teaching of unity,” Fadnavis said.
He said since more land is required for the valor memorial, Maharashtra govt will provide all possible cooperation. He said Maharashtra govt would erect the Shivaji statue in Panipat and that minister of protocol Jayakumar Rawal will be the coordinator for the project.
