Week after pillion rider died, biker pal booked

Mumbai: Nearly a week after a teenage motorcycle rider had sustined injuries and his friend, who was riding pillion, died after their two-wheeler skidded at Andheri (east), the police on Friday registered a criminal offence against the motorcycle rider for rash riding.
Samir Shaikh, 19, the motorcycle rider, is a student who lives in Kurla. Late on Jan 30, Shaikh and his friend, Mohammad Alim, who was also a Kurla resident, were on their way to Sakinaka when their motorcycle had an accident.
Early on January 31, the two had reached Andheri-Kurla Road, near Chakala metro station, when their two-wheeler had skidded.

The two who were on the motorcycle had been thrown off due to the impact and both of them had been grievously injured.
The police were informed and the two rushed to Cooper Hospital. Police found their bike on one side of the road. The friend riding pillion succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 7 pm the same day. The biker was treated and subsequently discharged.
Initially an accidental death had been recorded at Andheri police station after the pillion rider succumbed to his injuries. On Friday, the police registered a criminal offence against the motorcycle rider, accusing him of rash driving.
