VASAI: Residents of Vasai East woke up to news of a wild animal (a big cat) spotted lurking in the area on Tuesday night
A biker was attacked but escaped unharmed after screaming for help. Security guards from nearby under-construction buildings rushed to his aid, prompting the big cat to flee.
The incident occurred in the Madhuban locality of Vasai East in Palghar district, an area frequented by early morning joggers and walkers.
“We have informed the forest department, and now it is up to them to step up security measures,” said a police officer from the Waliv police station, which has registered the incident. “Whether it was a cheetah or a leopard is for the forest department to confirm,” said Dilip Ghughe, Senior Police Inspector at Waliv Police Station. The forest department conducted a spot panchnama in the presence of Waliv police officers.
“Photos of the paw prints and other details from the site, as well as pictures clicked by the security guard, have been collected,” Ghughe added.
“This incident occurred between 11:30 PM and midnight on Tuesday when a biker was attacked by the big cat while riding his bike,” Ghughe explained. The biker was traveling on a man-made mud road when the animal suddenly appeared. Startled, the biker fell and screamed for help. Security guards stationed at nearby construction sites rushed to the scene, and the big cat retreated into nearby bushes. The guards quickly clicked photos and alerted the Waliv police.
