Mumbai: Waliv police on Thursday arrested a labourer for allegedly confining a woman suffering from mental illness in his Vasai chawl room for two days and sexually assaulting her.
The woman, a divorcee, went missing on Tuesday after she left her Vile Parle home to see a doctor. The next day, her elder sister and father filed a missing person’s complaint at Vile Parle police station. The sister also contacted friends in Waghralpada in Vasai (E), where the survivor lived with her former husband. On Thursday, the father got a call from a friend that his daughter was spotted in Waghralpada. They found her in the chawl. She said she did not remember how she reached Vasai as she had a headache. She said met the accused, who gave her medicines and took her to his room where he sexually assaulted her after promising marriage. “We are probing how she reached Vasai as she said she travelled alone,” said sub-inspector Nitin Koli of Waliv police station.
