Two fire stns proposed for coastal road emergencies | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Mumbai fire brigade has proposed two fire stations to the civic body’s coastal road department, each spanning 1,500 square metres, along the reclaimed land of the Mumbai Coastal Road. The move is aimed at enhancing the response time for emergencies along the road and in adjacent areas.
However, since the reclaimed land is designated only for open spaces, the proposal will require Supreme Court’s approval once the BMC finalises the locations.
A BMC official said the tentative locations proposed are one between Mahalaxmi Temple and Priyadarshini Park, and the other closer to Worli. “Only once the locations are finalised would the BMC approach the court seeking permissions. While 111 hectares were reclaimed for the project, 70 hectares were proposed as public open space. This space extends from Priyadarshini Park up to Bandra Worli Sea Link,” said the official.
Meanwhile, even as Jan 26 was set as a tentative date for opening the second connector from the Worli Sea Link to the Coastal Road, full 24×7 access to the road remains unlikely any time soon. Officials said some works are still pending.
