Two arrested for illegal possession of banned cough syrup in Kalyan

Kalyan: The Tilak Nagar police arrested two persons for illegal possession and sale of the banned codeine phosphate from Kachoregaon area in Kalyan. The police seized 192 bottles of codeine phosphate from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Irfan Sheikh and Sohel Sheikh. Both are residents of the Kachoregaon area near Patripul in Kalyan East. Police said cough syrup with codeine phosphate has intoxicating effects on the nervous system, and the govt has banned this syrup.
Atul Zende, deputy commissioner of police, said, “The primary probe shows both were carrying the substance with the intention to sell it.”
The police registered an offence against the duo and arrested them under the relevant section of the NDPS Act.
