Did Greenland have a 10-hour power outage? Americans say Donald Trump would never...
A massive 10-hour power outage struck Greenland’s capital Nuuk.

After Donald Trump’s expression of interest in buying the Arctic island Greenland, there were reports of a major power outage in Greenland’s capital Nuuk to which Americans said that the US would never let that happen to Greenland.
The power outage began around 9.40 AM local time on December 28 and continued for around 10 hours amid the -10 degrees Celsius temperature. The outage affected not only houses but also critical infrastructure like hospitals and emergency services which had to switch to backup generators.
The Greenlandic government issued an emergency statement urging citizens to conserve energy where possible and to go to the community centres to avail of their facilities. Locals were forced to hang out in their cars to get warm and as the power supply resumed, people were told to not use washing machines, dishwashers and other large appliances, reports claimed.

An ‘accident’ was said to be the cause of the power outage.
“20,000 people live in Nuuk, and it’s current -17°F. President Trump would never allow this to happen to you, Greenland! Time to join us,” one post read.

The timing of the power outage intrigued many as Donald Trump has his eyes on Greenland — apart from Canada and Panama.“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump wrote on Truth Social as he announced he had picked Ken Howery, as his ambassador to Copenhagen.
Greenland Prime Minister Mute Egede reacted to Donald Trump’s message and said Greenland is not for sale and will never be. “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” the PM said in a written comment.
During his first term, Trump suggested in 2019 that the US should buy Greenland which is home to the strategically important Pituffik US space base.
