THANE: The Thane traffic police warned of an intensified drive against drunk driving within its jurisdiction and are in talks with the management of bars and hotels to ensure they assist drunk revellers in reaching their respective homes safely after New Year celebrations, officials informed.
The Thane traffic police, who launched a special drive to target drunk drivers in Thane and suburbs, booked nearly 271 motorists, auto drivers, and bikers over the last four days and also warned to intensify their drives on New Year’s Eve on Tuesday.
“The special Thane traffic police squads will be stationed at vantage locations across the region since morning. Our teams have also coordinated with the local drinking joints and bars within their jurisdiction to ensure those under the influence of alcohol don’t drive back home after the revelry. The bar and hotel owners have been asked to deploy standby drivers or tie up with auto and taxi drivers to assist and ferry drunken customers back to their homes,” informed DCP, Thane traffic, Pankaj Shirsat.
Those found driving under the influence of alcohol will be booked under section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
