Thane: Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh denies EVM tampering allegations in Bhiwandi East victory

BHIWANDI: Many leaders of Mahavikas Aghadi, who either lost or won the elections, are accusing EVM tampering in the assembly elections.
Amidst all this, Samajwadi Party MLA Rais Shaikh, who got the highest number of votes among the 10 Muslim MLAs elected in Maharashtra, denied the talk of EVM tampering in his Bhiwandi East assembly constituency.
He said that the Election Commission and the police conducted the voting in a very good manner in his area.
Shaikh won the recent elections by a margin of 52,015 votes against Shiv Sena candidate Santosh Shetty. He represents a constituency with 51% Muslim voters and secured 62% of the total votes.
After winning the election, in his victory speech, Shaikh attributed his success to his work across all communities in Bhiwandi East assembly.
Shaikh said, “People have proven that whoever works will win. I worked for all sections of society in my constituency, which led to a significant mandate for us. Around 97% of Muslims and 9.8% of non-Muslims voted for me.”
He further said, “Polarisation of votes on religion didn’t work in Bhiwandi. I have got votes in areas where non-Muslim populations are dominant. Women voters have given their support to me.”
Shaikh also thanked the Election Commission and police administration for conducting a fair election, stating they didn’t act under pressure or in a biased manner.
“In Bhiwandi East, the elections were fair. I thank the police administration and the Election Commission. They didn’t act under pressure or in a biased manner,” Shaikh added.
In the midst of a spate of allegations over the process of voting and counting on EVM machines, as many as 104 candidates from 95 assembly constituencies, most of them MVA candidates from 31 districts, have submitted applications for matching and confirmation of the EVMs and VVPAT data.
