Thane MP directs civic body to resolve civic woes faced by Waghbil, GB road residents

THANE: Netas have taken cognisance of the traffic congestion on Ghodbunder state highway and internal roads due to the influx of freight vehicles during peak hours and damaged stretches, and directed the authorities to take corrective action.
Thane Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske convened a meeting on Tuesday with Thane civic authorities following repeated complaints by residents of around 47 residential societies over rising traffic congestion on the roads due to heavy vehicles, along with issues like illegal hawkers and inadequate civic infrastructure, among others. The authorities assured prompt redressal of the issues.
“Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has taken cognisance of the issue and has held discussions with the state highway authorities to enforce timing for plying heavy vehicles within the city limits. A terminal or parking bays for trucks at Vasai and Thane fringes will also be constructed for halting these freight vehicles during peak hours so that they don’t enter city limits. In addition, the authorities have been asked to repair all damaged stretches of roads for smooth traffic flow,” Mhaske said.
It may be noted that the Thane municipal corporation has dug up several stretches of road along the GB highway and Waghbil area, leading to inconvenience for local residents. The proliferation of hawkers has added to the problems, following which Mhaske directed the administration to immediately take up corrective works.
Mhaske also raised the issue of scarce water supply and inadequate open and recreational spaces for children and elders in these plush neighbourhoods and directed the administration to ensure the societies receive adequate resources.
“Why do residents have to pay a steep charge for private tankers, and how does the tanker mafia get access to the water but these societies do not? We must ensure residents get their rightful volume of water daily,” he instructed officials.
