THANE: The Thane Civil Hospital set a new record on Sunday by performing 72 pediatric surgeries in a single day, hospital officials reported.
A team of nine pediatric surgeons and anesthesiologists, led by renowned pediatric surgeon and former Dean of KEM Hospital Dr. Sanjay Oak, along with Civil Surgeon Dr. Kailash Pawar, managed the surgeries. The procedures involved children ranging from one to 18 years old, treating conditions such as lipoma, hernia, and several critical cases, including phimosis and hydrocele.
“We wanted to conduct 65 surgeries on Sunday to commemorate the 65th birthday of Dr Oak and made elaborate arrangements at the facility. Two of the three operation theatres at our facility were used, and four operating tables were installed. We previously identified cases that could be taken up for surgery on Sunday and admitted them a day before. A reserved ward of 55 beds, along with the regular paediatric ward, was used for the same,” said Dr. Pawar.
