KALYAN: Five minors were detained by police on Friday in connection with stone pelting on policemen at Ambivli railway station. The incident occurred when the police went to apprehend a chain snatcher at the notorious Irani basti in Ambivli.
The detained minors were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Bhiwandi, where they were sent to a remand home. Earlier, four individuals were arrested in connection with this case. With the detention of five more minors, the total number of accused held in the case reached nine.
On Wednesday night, Andheri MIDC police visited the area to apprehend a chain snatcher involved in several chain-snatching cases. As they were returning from Irani basti, a mob led by women and minors chased the police at Ambivli railway station.
The mob pelted stones and managed to free the accused held by the police. In response, the local Khadakpada police later arrested four individuals.
On Friday, they detained five more minors who were involved in pelting stones at the policemen, resulting in injuries to three officers, including an assistant police inspector who sustained serious head injuries.
