Thane corporation ranks 4th in TB detection & treatment
The Thane Municipal Corporation secured the fourth position among 30 municipal bodies in Maharashtra for its TB detection and treatment efforts

THANE: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has secured the fourth position among 30 municipal corporations across the state for its efforts in detecting and treating tuberculosis (TB) as part of a special programme for TB elimination, officials have confirmed.
According to a press statement, TMC achieved 85 points out of 100, reportedly the highest score compared to Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Bhiwandi Nizampur among other corporations in the metropolitan region. The evaluation was based on specific parameters set under the National TB Elimination Programme, including case detection, treatment provided, patient care, follow-up for medication, awareness campaigns, and assistance offered to patients through NGOs, explained Dr Prasad Patil, Chest Physician at the civic-run CSMH Hospital in Kalwa and City TB Officer at TMC.
As part of the tuberculosis campaign, 5.7 lakh suspected patients were screened at various locations such as Thane Central Jail, a mental health hospital, construction sites, and shopping malls, in addition to door-to-door screening. Suspected patients were examined using advanced screening machines that provided infection status within two hours, officials said.
Officials reported that 8,143 new TB patients were registered within the corporation area in 2024, leading to the ranking. Of these, 6,936 patients benefited from the initiative, and 5,772 successfully completed their treatment, while the remaining continue to receive medical care.
