Thane BJP wants review of antecedents of labour provided by contractors

THANE: The Thane BJP, Monday, has requested the police scrutinise antecedents of the labour provided by contractors and agencies to various developmental and real estate projects in the city to weed out the possibility of any illegal migrant working here.
The development comes close on the heels of the alleged attacker in the actor Saif Ali Khan case – reportedly being a Bangladesh national – who managed to assume a fake identity to get jobs at a few commercial units. A random check by BJP leader Kirit Somaiya of the Thane labour camp on Sunday – in whose vicinity the Khan attack accused was found hiding – revealed few Bangladesh nationals to have been employed raising concerns.
A delegation of BJP leaders led by former BJP corporator Manohar Dumbare and MLC Niranjan Davkhare accordingly met Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbare, Monday evening demanding stringent action.
“As the problem of illegal migrants may be deep rooted in the city also, we requested the police to verify identities of all laborers deployed at various construction and civic projects in the city. The police could also explore the possibility of a racket involved in providing fake identity cards to these immigrants in West Bengal,” Dumbare said.
Meanwhile, residents from Hiranandani estate and surrounding areas said they have been raising concern about rising illegal constructions and possible immigrants settling in the vicinity. “We are appealing residents to get police verification of their respective house-helps and new recruits also,” said local Shiv Sena leader Praveen Nagare.
