Sunidhi Chauhan Embraces Bollywood Dance with Sanya Malhotra in ‘Aankh’ |

Singer Sunidhi Chauhan for the first time in her four-decade long career is busting a move in a dance video. Chauhan’s latest track Aankh features her and actress Sanya Malhotra gliding like swans. However, the video exemplifies the Indian music industry’s peculiar dependence on Bollywood cameos, contrasting with Western norms where musicians are the primary focus.
“Primarily it was supposed to be me, my song and me featuring in it,” Chauhan reveals. “When they thought of this idea of having two women in the same video, I thought it’s my song, I want to be there in the video. But when they thought of Sanya, I was very impressed. She is a brilliant actor, she’s a great looker, and a dancer. I’m a fan of her. I was absolutely okay to share the screen space with her because I knew I was going to learn something from this great dancer and actor.”

Chauhan states that she loves movies, probably the reason she ended up assisting Imitaz Ali on the sets of Tamasha. “I love good actors and being in the same frame or being around them is my favorite time.”
Interestingly, the song is about Chauhan and Malhotra dancing unabashedly, with no story line involved. Chauhan recalls, “We sat and discussed whether the song needed a story. This was about two women getting together and just dancing, just expressing what the lyrics are saying. This song it’s more of a vibe. It has no meaning.” She adds, “We are being sexy and hot. It doesn’t come naturally to me. I am conscious. It takes a little time for me to get into that zone. But once I do get in that zone, then I’m all there. But it’s not a very natural thing for me. But thanks to Sanya, she made me feel very comfortable.”
