Mumbai: The Maharashtra state cyber cell has registered an FIR against persons who shared and circulated a doctored video of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis “speaking about Urban Naxals”. Police registered the case on Monday, and the cyber unit has begun investigating social media platforms where the altered video appeared. Officials said the manipulated video was intended to incite riots.
The video originates from Fadnavis’s time as deputy CM, with his original address being modified before distribution on social media. A state cyber police officer said, “The team is tracing the internet protocol (IP) address of the initial post to identify the culprits. Officers are actively working to locate those who created and spread this altered content.”
The officer confirmed that the circulated video of Fadnavis’s speech was manipulated and not recent.
“The team is also locating the post threads to track the accused who posted the video,” said the officer.
