ULHASNAGAR: In the case of the half-burnt body of a three-year-old girl, Alisha Modi, found in Ulhasnagar, the police arrested her maternal uncle, Jitu Nupe (22), who was responsible for her murder.
The investigation revealed that the accused did not commit the murder intentionally. According to the accused, he was playing with the girl when he jokingly slapped her, and she collided with the kitchen slab and died. Out of fear of getting caught, he threw the body in the bushes on a hill located near the area.
The incident came to light on 18 November when the girl, who lived with her parents and two sisters in Camp No. 5, suddenly disappeared.
When the girl was not found, her mother lodged a complaint about the girl’s disappearance at the local Hill Line police station.
Seeing the seriousness of the case, the police started searching for the girl. They also found that the accused was pretending to help them in finding the girl.
Meanwhile, the accused asked one of his rickshaw driver friends to search for her in the direction of the mine, saying that the girl might have gone in that direction.
When the rickshaw driver was searching for the girl on Thursday, he saw the dead body of the girl. When the rickshaw driver informed the police about finding the dead body, they recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
During this time, the police became suspicious about how the rickshaw driver went to such a dense forest to search for the girl.
When the police questioned him, he revealed the name of the girl’s maternal uncle, Jitu, who had given him the direction to search at that place.
After this, when the police questioned Jitu on the basis of suspicion, he finally confessed to his crime.
Sachin Gore, Deputy commissioner of police, said, “In this connection, our team collected all technical evidence related to the accused, including his confession, to make a watertight case against the accused.”
