MUMBAI: Vikas Walkar, father of Shraddha Walkar whose gruesome murder in 2022 by her live-in partner Aftab Poonawalla had shocked the nation, died due to a cardiac arrest in his Vasai West residence in Sanskruti building on Sunday morning.
On finding him motionless, Walkar’s family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. He was cremated in the evening.
Shraddha (28) was allegedly strangled to death by Poonawalla in their rented flat in Delhi in May 2022. He allegedly chopped her body into pieces, stored them in a fridge and disposed of them in a nearby forest and other places over several days. The murder came to light on Nov 14, 2022.
Walkar was tirelessly pursuing his daughter’s murder case with Delhi police for the past three years as her mortal remains were yet to be handed over to the family. In Aug 2024, he launched an NGO, Shraddha Walkar Charitable Trust, to raise awareness among women about relationship violence and provide counselling, legal aid, and social support.
