Shinde likely to meet PM with family today

Mumbai: Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. This will be Shinde’s first meeting with PM Modi after the Mahayuti swept the state assembly elections. Sena functionaries said it will be a courtesy visit, and Shinde will be accompanied by his family. Shinde was in Delhi last month after the results of the state election polls. Earlier this month, upset over the allocation of portfolios ahead of the cabinet expansion, DCM Shinde skipped a visit to New Delhi with CM Fadnavis and DCM Ajit Pawar. Shinde was reluctant to join the Maharashtra govt without assurances of key portfolios such as home. DCM Shinde met PM Modi during the swearing-in ceremony in Mumbai on Dec 5.
Before this, DCM Shinde, along with his family, met PM Modi in July 2023. CM Shinde’s meeting with PM Modi at that time came amid speculation by opposition parties that there would be a change of guard in the state and Ajit Pawar would take over the reins of the state, replacing Shinde. That, however, did not happen.
Shinde, who has been in his native village in Satara since Monday, will travel to Srinagar from Delhi on Friday.
