The question of how many hours one should work has become a contentious issue on social media. This ongoing debate was spurred first by Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, who recommended a tough 70-hour workweek. The dispute recently took a new turn after Larsen & Toubro’s Chairman, SN Subrahmanyan, made a startling statement. Subrahmanyan recommended that employees work 90 hours a week, including Sundays.
This comment has resulted in a barrage of criticism and worry. Recently, Anupam Mittal responded with a funny message. Taking to X (previously Twitter) wrote: “But sir, if husband and wife don’t look at each other, how will we remain the most populous country in the world.”
Mittal’s smart jab sparked a deluge of humorous and snarky responses from netizens. Anupam’s comment came after Subrahmanyan was asked about L&T’s policy on a six-day workweek. In response, he expressed regret for not forcing his workers to work on Sundays and stated that he spends his Sundays working.
However, Subrahmanyan’s statement, in which he questioned the usefulness of time off, provoked an intense controversy. He said, “What do you do while sitting at home? How long can you look at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? “Get to the office and start working.”
