Several feared dead in Mumbai as BEST bus loses control, runs over people

NEW DELHI: Several people were killed and over 10 injured when a BEST bus lost control and ran over pedestrians in Kurla West, Mumbai, late Monday evening.
The out-of-control bus also damaged several cars and autorickshaws before coming to a stop. Police said all the injured have been rushed to Bhabha Hospital, adding that it will take time to confirm the exact number of deaths. Locals, however, claimed that at least 5 to 6 people have died.
The BEST bus was travelling from Kurla Station towards Andheri when the crash took place at Ambedkar Nagar in Kurla West Railway Station Road.
Traffic in the area remained disrupted for hours.
The bus driver, who is among the injured, is reported to be in a serious condition. A large crowd gathered at the site following the accident, leading to a complete shutdown of traffic towards Kurla railway station.
“More are expected to arrive. So far, 20 have come in. None have been transferred to other hospitals so far. We can’t comment on their condition at this point,” said Dr Padmashree Ahire, medical superintendent at Kurla Bhabha Hospital.
