Mumbai: An unknown senior citizen lost his life three hours after being struck by an unidentified speeding vehicle on the Western Express Highway (WEH) on Saturday night. The collision took place at the Centaur Bridge’s starting point on the North Bound in Vile Parle (East). The senior citizen was crossing the road when the vehicle struck him and fled without providing him medical help. The unidentified elderly man died later, and police continue their search for the driver involved in this hit-and-run incident after four days.
Vile Parle police were notified of the incident through an Uber driver’s call at 11.33 pm, reporting an injured person near the WEH divider. “A team rushed to the spot and got the injured man hospitalised at the Cooper Hospital. He succumbed to multiple internal injuries and fractures at 2.30 am on Sunday while undergoing treatment,” said a police officer of the Vile Parle police station.
The police are working to establish the identity and location of the deceased. “We have alerted and send messages to all the police stations in the city to find out any missing complaints has been filed which will help in tracking the deceased family members. Four days has passed but there has been no clue about the deceased identity,” said the officer.
The investigating team is reviewing Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from Vile Parle to Goregaon to identify the vehicle involved in the fatal hit-and-run incident.
A case has been registered against the unknown driver under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 281 (rash driving), and relevant Motor Vehicle Act sections.
