Navi Mumbai: A two-wheeler went up in flames following a violent physical altercation between two bikers, their pillion riders and a relative of one of the riders after a road rage incident near the APMC fruit market in the wee hours of Friday.
Around 12.50am, there was a verbal spat between biker Hrithik Rai (22) of Juhu Gaon and his pillion rider Miraj Ansari (22), and biker Farhan Ansari (20) of Turbhe village and his pillion rider Ubed Shaikh (25) over overtaking at Annapurna Chowk. Hrithik called his brother Nitin, who reached the spot on his bike and confronted Farhan and Ubed. Both groups turned violent, and police arrived. As Nitin’s bike failed to start, he removed the fuel tank pipe and kickstarted it using the spark plug, but the vehicle caught fire. The fire brigade was summoned, but till then the bike was charred.
Ajay Shinde, senior inspector of APMC police station, said cross-FIRs have been registered against both groups under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for voluntarily causing hurt. — George Mendonca
