Thane: A 74-year-old Diva resident was killed after a reversing refuse collection mini-van ran over him before dragging him for a few metres in a narrow lane in Santosh Nagar on Friday.
Around 9am, Sitaram Totam was crossing the road when the van hit him. A viral video of the incident shows the driver negotiating a reverse when he failed to notice the man standing at the rear side of the vehicle. “The man got knocked down and was dragged for quite some distance by the van until a few passersby raised an alarm. Totam was rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where he was declared dead. His body was sent for post-mortem examination,” said Mumbra police senior Inspector Anil Shinde. — Manoj Badgeri
