JAMMU: A team of experts from AIIMS Delhi on Sunday met 11 patients undergoing treatment for a mysterious illness in J&K’s Rajouri district, which has claimed 17 lives so far, and collected samples from their sealed homes and surrounding areas in Badhaal village.
No new cases have been reported in the past nine days from Badhaal village after 17 died between Dec 7 and Jan 19.
A five-member team, headed by AIIMS director Dr M Srinivas and including clinical toxicology professor Dr A Shariff, emergency medicine additional professor Dr Jamahed Nayer, and pediatric additional professor Dr Jagdish Prasad Meena, arrived in Rajouri on Friday night.
“Besides the AIIMS Delhi team, a team of experts from PGI Chandigarh is also investigating the cause of toxicity,” a source said.
District authorities have shifted around 87 families, comprising 364 people, from Badhaal to three designated isolated centres: Govt Nursing College, Govt Boys Higher Secondary School, and Govt Medical College in Rajouri town.
Authorities have also declared Badhaal village a ‘containment zone‘ and imposed prohibitory orders on all public and private gatherings.
