Mumbai: The general administration department led by CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday upgraded the post of principal secretary to the DCM to the rank of ACS and appointed urban development ACS Aseem Kumar Gupta on that post.
As per an order issued by the GAD, Gupta will hold additional charge of the post of ACS to DCM till further orders. Gupta’s order assumes significant administrative importance, since the GAD on Jan 14 promulgated an order to provide for appointment of staff on the establishment of CM, DCM, cabinet members and ministers of state.
As per the Jan 14 order, CM was entitled for appointment of three IAS officers, one ACS, one principal secretary and one secretary, while DCM was entitled for appointment of only one IAS officer in the rank of principal secretary. On Wednesday, it appears that the GAD amended the order and accordingly, the principal secretary-rank official will be replaced by ACS rank bureaucrat. —Prafulla Marpakwar
