Mumbai: The still goats drawing the eye on the ground floor of Worli’s Nehru Centre Art Gallery have travelled all the way from Jawhar.
Along with a bevy of flower collages, lino prints and maps with birds on them, the goat sculptures are among the unique artworks on display at ‘Beauty Without Boundaries‘, an ongoing exhibition organised by Aseema Foundation in collaboration with Societe Generale India. It will be on till Jan 20.
Held once every three years by Aseema Charitable Trust, a non-profit which works with underprivileged kids, the show boasts around 200 paintings and 40 artworks, most of which were created by children and alumni of three studios run by Aseema in Bandra called Room 13.
Located inside three BMC schools in the queen of suburbs, Room 13 is an art studio whose concept has its origins in a primary school in Scotland of 1994. A CSR initiative supported for a decade by Societe Generale India, it sees students and aspiring artists from underserved sections of society working alongside professionals. “We introduce kids who are inclined towards art to works from around the globe through immersive experiences,” says Farida Ahmad, head of the art department at Aseema .
Inaugurated on Jan 15, the exhibition also marks 30 years of Aseema. Today, Aseema, which began working extensively with children living in slum communities in Mumbai and tribal communities in Igatpuri, has helped over 3,000 kids across the state.tnn
